How much water would remain in a fridge when the water supply to the icemaker/filter is shut off?
I’m trying to determine how to account for water damage to my floor. The water supply had been shut off long before. The amount of damage seems excessive if caused only by residual water in the fridge.
The amount of water remaining inside the appliance depends on the model and manufacturer. When the water lines are disconnected, they should be drained. Now, some refrigerators, with the frost free freezers, usually have condensation trays underneath them and this may be what caused your floor damage. Check to see if the tray is missing or cracked.

Dawn C is on top of this, in addition to the evaporator, if the frig had a water dispenser as well as an ice maker then there is also a reservoir which held water that was cooled from which you drew water for drinking, this reservoir could hold from a quart to a gallon depending on the brand, some use a large coil of the same tubing as connected to the home water supply for a reservoir. I would also inspect the drain that runs from the evaporator to the pan is misdirected it could be dumping the defrost water directly onto the floor every time it goes thru a defrost cycle. The pan that Dawn spoke of is usually sitting on a group of coils that get hot during the normal operation and this evaporates the water that has collected in the pan. the pan might even have a leak.
