Any ideas how to set the stage and cater for a rural location wedding, ie no power or water connected.?
We would love to get married in a particularly beautiful and sentimental hilltop on our own ranch but the logistics seem impossible…. It will be a small group of family and friends, mostly from overseas.
A Portable Generator Will Take Care Of The Power, Portable Dunnies And A Fresh Water Tank Or Just Plenty Of Bottled Will See You Right For Water. impractical
our choosen spot is also in this situation
have you considered getting married there and having your celebration somewhere a little more practical?
all i could think when i read this
"what about toilets??"
as soon as you know there is none, you want one
catering etc would also be difficult, though music and candles wouldnt be a problem

I would see you can rent a few port-a-potty’s, maybe a construction company can loan you some. You probably get a cater to take care of all the food and drink needs, it may cost extra. It would be a good idea to keep it small and inform them of any logistics they will have to be where of.

Do a cook out. My future sister in law did that for hers and it was really nice, laid back and fun. They also had pasta dishes set up on tables with those bunsen burner cooking trays. It was great! She did an Hawaiin theme.

Look into renting a generator to power up the area, but be careful because they can be loud. Do a daytime event so you don’t have to light everything up. As for catering talk to your caterer and discuss the situation they could bring everything in hot and ready to eat then set up and everyone eat right after so you don’t have to keep food really hot for long. good luck sounds special!

As you already have figured out, everything will have to be carried in and out. You will have to have bottled water. You will have to have someplace to wash hands for guests and servers of the food, state law says so. You will have to rent toilets, at least 2, depending on the amount of guests.
You will not be able to wash a dish, all drinks will have to be in bottles or cans. You will have to carry in ice.
There will be no electricity to keep food warm, you will have to have sterno cans and serving chafing dishes, all carried in. Pray that it is not windy that day, good luck lighting the sterno in the rain or a wind storm.
You mentioned a hill. Good luck finding caterers that will carry all this to the site. And expect to pay for that, even if you find a professional.
And hope that you do not have any sick or elderly guests, they will never make it up the hill.
and think of bugs, chiggers, mosquitos, poison ivy, etc, all the things that nature can throw at you.
Suit yourself, somebody in your family might want to help, but if you told me I had to make four or 5 trips up that hill carrying ice and food and drinks and tables, I’d tell you you were getting married without me.
If your friends and family are young, athletic, and game, and if you don’t mind getting married in hiking boots, go for it.
