How is the water quality in Afghanistan?

Im wondering because im getting shipped there on October 1st. And wondering if their going to supply us with all bottled water or will we use the tap from our base? This is all new territory for me, I finished BT months ago and have been relaxing and training again to get ready. I am expected to be in the Kunar Province, I am 17.

I’m going out there in a couple weeks too.

My sponsor says that the water is okay for showering and stuff, but you don’t want to drink it. But that’s true with almost every country outside of the states because our stomachs are so weak from all the chlorine and filtering.

When I was in Iraq, we were provided with gallons and gallons of filtered, bottled water… it’ll probably be the same in Afghanistan.

  2. I would say to NEVER drink the water from the taps. KBR or who ever looks after your camp does a good job of cleaning the water but that is the problem. It is too clean. The water is so chlorinated that if you drink it you will find that it will kill the "good bacteria" already in your gut that your system needs to process food and such. Not to worry though, there will be plenty of water laying around on pallets for you to drink any time you want. I even used it to brush my teeth with and made sure I kept my mouth closed in the shower.

We had bottled water to drink, but the showers were small spaced and dirty. You are more dirty going out than coming in XD

Any ways, I hope that helps.
