the aerator puts air into the water, it just keeps the water from splashing in the sink, you can take the aerator off if you like,
they don,t affect the water quality,
thats done by the city,
References :
maint man

If the building is relatively new or if Copper pipes have been recently replaced, this will continue for a month or so...it's strange, but true. You might try removing your aerators on your faucet nozzles too...allows unrestricted flow of water. Best Guess.
References :
28 yrs. Maintenance field

Before you call a plumber call your healt dept. and ask them how you go about testing the water, the probably will give/sell a testing kit that you can mail to a lab and get an analysis of the water.
Based on the result you could need a water softener,a filter or nothing at all.
In the meantime I wouldn't drink the water from the faucet and if you cook, make sure that the water is boiling.
