Wind Generator: Sustainable Living student project
http://www.mum.edu/sustainable_living/ Sustainable Living students at Maharishi University build a wind generator from scratch. The design was largely based on the axial-flux design found on www.otherpower.com Some other helpful sites are www.windstuffnow.com and http://www.scoraigwind.com/.
Maharishi University of Management (MUM) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the arts, sciences, business, and humanities. The University is accredited through the doctoral level by the Higher Learning Commission.
Founded in 1971 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the University features Consciousness-Based education to develop students’ inner potential. All students and faculty practice the Transcendental Meditation technique, which extensive published research has found boosts learning ability, improves brain functioning, and reduces stress.
Maharishi University uses the block system in which each student takes one course at a time students report they learn more without the stress of taking 4-5 courses at once.
The University has a strong focus on sustainability and natural health, and serves organic vegetarian meals. The B.S. in Sustainable Living is MUM’s most popular undergraduate major.

You might want to …
You might want to watch our video “A deeper green” by our Sustainable Living professor Lonnie Gamble. He says that the major problem isn’t that we need more technology, but that we need to strengthen our inner connection with all of life, so that we naturally want to protect and nurture the environment. And that’s why we need to transcend — that’s how nourish that deep connection.
You had me up to …
You had me up to the point when you started talking about meditation…. *sigh*
Where can I find …
Where can I find specific plans or blueprints on the generator itself? things like wire size, magnet size, placement and how to wire it all together? I sure would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.
“Sustainable” …
“Sustainable” doesn’t mean the same as a perpetual motion machine. Sustainable means that it uses natural resources without depleting them. Burning oil isn’t sustainable because there’s a limited supply. But putting up a wind turbine or a solar panel doesn’t use up the wind or the sun — you can use them all you want without diminishing their power.
Our Sustainable …
Our Sustainable Living students are working on about a dozen projects right now. Check out our website the link is up to the right of the video window.
If you really want to sustain the world, it’s going to take more than technology. Check out our videos by Lonnie Gamble, one of our Sustainable Living profs. He talks about how important it is to renew our connection with natural law.
That’s very …
That’s very fantastic. Do you have any other sustainable projects? I want to make a project which can sustain the world.
The term ” …
The term “sustainable” is deceitful; nothing is “sustainable”; one of the basic laws of science is you never get as much work out of a machine as you put into it…..

Have you considered Marko Rodin’s coil? Check out Marko Rodin’s YouTube videos.
After watching his vids, you’ll know the optimum coil design.
Called the Rodin Coil…check it out!
Great work!
Hi!
It seems like …
Hi!
It seems like you only have a single magnet disk.. i wonder if there is some iron laminations behind the coils? I’ve build 2 axial flux gennies my self, one with dual magnet rotors and the other with singe magnet disk and transformer eel behind the coils to complete the magnetic circuits.
Anyways, your work looks good. I hope the turbine has been working well.

I am checking with the students who built the wind generator, and they’ll send me the website with all the info. So check back in a few days.
please i need all …
please i need all the specific informations about this wonderfull project we have in our country a very good speed of wind so it can be so helpfull for me & for other friends
specialy all the informations about the wire coil how many & how many round each coil & how much the energy will come out like how many ampers or watts
& if possible how can i make a good magnet unit if it’s not available in store

nice work guys but …
nice work guys but have u thought about using gears to up the rpm for those stator disks? im buildin one and just wanted to hear your thoughts on it
Great Work Guys!!! …
Great Work Guys!!!
Your coil design seems very interesting. Did you guys glue them down to the stator while they were being squished?
Thanks,
Diego
This is interesting …
This is interesting and admirabel. How would an amateur find the information to make one of those things himself? And how would he integrate it into a domestic electricity supply? The devil it seems is in the detail.

I thought that thing would never get finished. Great job guys, keep up the good work Julian. Jai Guru Dev, Josh
