    I agree. It is …
I agree. It is difficult to specify carrying capacity for a nonhuman species in a natural environment. When you add the ingenuity of humans to the mix, the calculations become that much more difficult. The most rigorous and timely work on this topic is the ecological footprint. The Global Footprint Network conservatively estimates that we are globally overshooting capacity by about 30%. Even with efficiency improvements, this cannot continue indefinitely.

    Very good video.

Isn’t one of the problems that there is no common definition of what the carrying capacity is for the planet? What is acceptable crowding, pollution, and use of resources for some is intolerable overconsumption for others? And of course the carrying capacity changes as technology advances and is able to produce more out of fewer resources (increased efficiency). Hard to reach a consensus on what level of consumption the steady state economy should be built on.
