Excellent beginning! I can’t wait to read more. It’s more plausable than some of the excuses for AGW that I’ve heard. Maybe you could team up with Al Gore somewhere down the road and he could make his second sci-fi movie!! Just think of the royalties!! But the AGW crowd can’t discern the difference between fact and fiction obviously, so it would be best to put a disclaimer on every page. They’d take it way too seriously.

Here’s my version of the story…if we continue to burn fossil fuels and ignore global warming.

Frank left his office early on a rainy Monday. The bus was late because of the ongoing fuel crisis…another oil embargo. He couldn’t understand why this kept on happening–why didn’t we do something about it the first time back in the 70’s? The entire economy was at the mercy of the black goo. I just didn’t make sense. It was obvious that the bus wasn’t going to come, so he went into the local library to get out of the rain. He stepped inside the building and wandered through the nature section, lost in thought. He picked up a large book and sat down on the floor. He flipped through the pages, but something caught his eye…it was a photograph of Alaska in it’s prime…full of beauty and wonder. The ice-capped mountains were pure white and the lakes were clear. Green trees flooded the land as far as the eye could see. For a moment, the picture filled him with awe and joy–but he suddenly realized that Alaska no longer looked like this. He knew that in the mad rush for more oil, the landscape had been devastated. Oil pipelines cut through the land and mountains, the trees were logged to bare earth and the lake was drained for irrigation in the southwest. With a heavy sigh, he put the history book back and wandered out into the rain, wondering what life was like back then.

It’s cool that you’re trying to write a novel dumdum. It actually sounds more like the scenario under a future where people had claimed to do something about global warming, but hadn’t really done anything. That might make a good plot, and plausible that governments might claim to do something and then not do it because they think it will be too costly.

No. A really scary one would be how a conspiracy of radical conservatives and fossil fuel companies sabotaged action against global warming.

Essentially every office worker works 8 hours/day under fluorescent lights. Funny how that (and the mercury contained in the millions of long bulbs; 2-10 time as as much as in a CFL) hasn’t destroyed society.

Science fiction? No. It will be reality if AlGore and his friends get their way. We will all be living on reservations, although their will be a glorified term for them, and our breathing will be monitored to ensure we don’t pollute the common air beyond our own personal CO2 quota. If anyone asks discomforting questions about their conditions they will be given the approved sedative and be told to shut up and be happy. At last everything is done for you…
And the most horrifying thing about the whole thing is that global warming was just a natural temporary variation in the weather and AlGore knew it all along.

Honestly, this is so well written, I already would like to read more.

Even, though global warming ozone depletion and all the other "chicken little" stories just goofy.

Written as the fiction it is, you show it could be interesting.

CNN , AP, Reuters, all the usual liberally tainted media scare people every day wit thier opinionated doom and gloom, why would someone buy a novel about the same ?
How about a novel about America falling apart and becoming Soviet Untion 2 because of the flawed and insulated political system….the back door deals, earmarks, etc, etc, which is driving us more in debt and breaking the back of the taxpayer….all because of a hoax ?
Sounds more likely to me.
After all, our forefathers rioted and rebelled regarding the "taxation without representation". Don’t we have that now ? Representatives aren’ t listening to the people, they turn over decisions the people voted on, they disallow people’s votes, they fraudulently scheme to give non-citizens vote, they spend Billions of our dollars on things I know the average person would never approve due to the waste.
