Is Global warming a farce? New study shows CO2 steady since 1850.?

Eco-warriors will be spluttering into their fair trade organic coffee this morning as new research shows that atmospheric levels of CO2 have effectively remained unchanged since the advent of the industrial revolution.

Scientists at Bristol University in the UK say that, despite rising emissions, the world is still able to store a ’significant’ amount of greenhouse gases in its oceans and forests and has continued to absorb more than half the carbon dioxide produced by humans over the last 160 years.

This is despite emissions of CO2 increasing from two billion tonnes a year in 1850 to the current 35 billion tonnes. The report is based on historical records taken from Antarctic ice core samples rather than unreliable climate models.

Actually, although I am a firm believer that most "global warming" science is politically motivated and not based on reality at all.

However, the headline "CO2 steady since 1850" is not a correct characterization of their findings. Rather, it’s discussing the "missing CO2" which has confounded global warming scientists for a long time.

Essentially, CO2 levels are rising, but not nearly as quickly as would be expected based on our rising output. It seems that the Earth sucks down CO2 almost (but not quite, at least not yet) as fast as we can crank it out.

The RATE of CO2 levels climbing is not as high as it once was, in spite of us feeding the earth CO2 faster than ever.

  4. "Global Warming" is naturally occuring event. It led up to all the previous ice ages in history. I think we are headed in that direction. But not necessarily this year, or in the next 20. Who knows.

What I DO know is, its a natually occuring event. The ocean temperatures have risen in the last 40 years.

  5. I think it is true, but I believe it is part of a natural cycle. In 1976 there were predictions of an impending ice age. Emissions from Western countries is not the cause when China continues to pollute the air.

We also have to remember, when using ice samples from the Antarctic, that they are not an accurate source for levels of any sort in the past 1000 yrs. The ice core samples they receive are diluted through water and some have been chemically changed due to natural processes such as, salt water, rain, decaying matter, and filtration through creeks, rivers, streams, and plant vegetation.

Also, during the mini epochs of climate changes over the last 2000 yrs, there have been extreme temperatures, extremely warm summers and extremely cold winters. Between 1795 to 1812 we have had a warmer than normal weather pattern and then from 1813 to 1924 the weathe was way below normal as well as the precipitation. You can check the weather climate changes from 0 AD to 2000 AD at this website. http://www.longrangeweather.com/1900ad.htm

Also, this page from same sight, just scroll down
    http://www.longrangeweather.com/global_temperatures.htm

These mini "Epochs" of extreme highs and lows in the climate due have an effect on CO2 levels periodically. In the last 20 yrs we have had an higher than average warm season for our nothern hemispheres. Approximately every 32 to 35 yrs there is a major shift in climate and weather. We are just beginning one now in 2009. Remember the heavy winters from 73 to 78? The Blizzard of 1977/1978? The same weather patterns 2 to 3 yrs prior, are the same patterns we are seeing this year.
When there are major changes in Earths development such as volcanic eruptions, earth quakes, forest fires, gas vents that are emerging from under the sea and above ground, as well as sulfur lakes near the crust of lava flows are released, the CO 2 emissions will fluctuate and rise until they are finished. It may take several years or decades to stop. Also, with human population growth, farming, livestock raising, and using wood or coal to heat and cook with as well as build homes for the growing populations, then these emissions will rise again. When population levels drop off or become steady, then they will lower or become stable at normal levels.

To me, Global warming is a political agenda platform and a money (subsidy) rider. Yes, if we were still running the world as we were between 1950 to 1978 without EPA restrictions and accountabililty for waste, toxic waste, and taking responsibility for our natural resources, then yes, I would feel that Glabal Warming would be warranted based on the toxicity of our planet. With recycling, emission requirements for vehicles, alternative fuels, and water purification systems in place, we are actually reversing our impact on the planet. Whether the concept of "Global Warming" is considered a man made anomaly or an Earth anomaly, I will follow an Earth anomaly. It has happened for thousands and thousands of years. We have only begun to study and measure our impact on the Earth as well as our weather patterns for the past 80 yrs with some slight of accuracy, but to say that Global warming is continuing and it is our fault is inaccurate. The planet warms and cools with or without us. Other factors in this idea are also outside our planet. Space debris, Solar Flares, Magnetic currents and waves, and even with our own rotation and axis position.

Absorbtion of CO 2 by the planet itself is a natural occuring process. Rain and moisture mixes with water molecules and is transferred to land and/or ocean and is recycled through the earths movements. The land, plants, and animals of this planet all absorb some portion of the CO 2 as well as contribute to it. Many of todays plants and animals have evolved and adapted to the changes of the earth and it’s gaseous emissions.
So, in conclusion, this Global Warming research is not specific enough nor clinical enough to say, with accuracy, that Global Warming is a significant danger to our existence nor something to pour our money and time into. Best we can do for now is to be conscious of our wasteful ways, recycle, non fossil fuel based energy or products, and replant, put back, or clean what we use from our natural resources.
