A great deal of water pollution is perfectly natural. The decomposition of "needles" beneath coniferous forest can result in highly acidic water. Science does not need to intervene as the problem is generally corrected by natural processes. Volcanic eruptions, particularly on the ocean floor, produce vast amounts of toxic, polluting materials. Science cannot intervene here, nor does it need to; this pollution is natural, localised and in the long term is not a problem.
References :
Laura, I think your question contains the answer. People don't care, and
many of them just don't believe that WE are the problem. It is nice to know
that you are thinking of pollution and ways to solve the problem.
References :
I don't understand what your asking much, but Science, does actually help water pollution.

Think about it, how many animals use fresh water as a toilet? All wild animals nearly. So the water is highly polluted before we even use it. Scientists have created chemicals to get rid of this pollution and to clean the water.

No company can legally dump chemical waste into water, it MUST be disposed of correctly, meaning by an external company most of the time.
