What environmental career options are out there from an urban planning perspective?
I have been accepted into a graduate urban planning program which will have great environmental and sustainability courses. What environmental career options are out there from an urban planning perspective?
Hi There
As an urban planner who has been working for 8 years, I can say there are a lot of very diverse and exciting jobs out there. There are cities accross the world working on redevleoping their former industrial waterfronts and doing amazing revitalization projects- look at Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver and many others.
The one area of urban planning that needs more experienced people is the area of brownfield/contaminated land revitalization. almost every city has contaminated sites and there are few really qualified expert firms and people who are up to speed on policies and technologies to deal with these sites. Brining these sites back to use is a huge environmental benefit, reduced urban sprawl and ghg emissions that contribute to climate change etc. etc.
Hope this helps.
