Sustainability should not be a goal of environmental science unless we are going to control population to zero growth. Otherwise we need to have an ever increasing food supply to feed the additional people.
I do not think that is a good plan and it is something I do not want governments to do.
When I became a practicing consultant in the field of agriculture in the 1960's we were going to run out of food by the 1980's. Did not happen.
We have done a pretty good job of handling the increased population and now the projection is about 2050. Bet we don't run out then either unless we follow some of the wants of the animal rightists and other kooks.
Point by point
a) will not achieve human needs
b) people today can not find their own food except at the grocery store and it comes from an increasing supply.
c) if we continue to recycle intelligently we will not use up the natural resources. they will be used over and over.
d) the standard of living would decline because of it.
References :
experience
