Is Urban Renewal an illustration of the reality of socialism?
Before urban renewal, low income families in cities often lived in tenement slums. They had to pay rent to absentee slumlords, sometimes living without heat, electricity, or even running water.
With urban renewal, the government seized the tenement buildings and demolished them, then they replaced them with modern public housing projects, up to modern housing standards.
The low income families moved in, and the low income housing projects became high crime areas. And most of the crime was committed by the residents or their guests.
Is this the reality of what happens to the government promise of free public housing and free income on welfare for life?
Is this the real outcome of socialism in the USA?
That is exactly right. Not only is there major crimes but those newly constructed buildings now are in the same condition as the ones demolished. If you work for nothing own nothing you take care of nothing.
How can we control the water dripping out of window unit AC?
We have a window unit air conditioner in our bedroom window in NYC. We’re on the third floor and water drips out onto the sidewalk. I know that means that our unit is working great, but our neighbors are angry about getting wet every time they step out our front door. We can’t begrudge them that. How can we control the drip? Is there a tube or a tray we can purchase? If we do need to control the water with a tube, where can we get one and what is the best configuration since we are in a dense urban area and almost anywhere outside that we’d redirect the water we would be getting someone wet.
IF MOVING THE DRIP 3 OE 4 FT TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM I THINK THAT IT WOULD BE EASY TO DO. IT MAY ALSO MAKE IT NECESSARY TO PUT THE DRAIN OPENING CLOSE TO THE BUILDING AND WOULD STAIN THE OUTSIDE OVER TIME AND MIGHT HAVE THE LANDLORD TELLING YOU NOT TO DO IT. I DON’T KNOW IF YOU CAN TAKE THE WATER BACK INSIDE TO A HANDY SINK OR BATHTUB DRAIN BUT THAT WOULD BE A VERY GOOD SOLUTION. ANOTHER IS TO PUT A PUMP AND FLOAT ON A RESERVOIR AND DO IT FOR A LONGER DISTANCE. THESE COMBINATIONS ARE SOLD FOR UNDERCOUNTER ICEMAKERS THAT DO NOT HAVE DRAINS INSTALLED AT THE ICEMAKERS AND I KNOW THAT WOULD WORK.
urban water problems in the 1800s?
i have a presentation i have to do. its for american history. i could answer all the questions except for two.
back in the 1800s, drinking water was so dirty and whatever, and it gave people diseases. my questions are: how did urban cities and reform groups try to solve this problem? (what did they do to help) and then evaluate the groups’ efforts to try and solve it. (was it effective?)
if you could answer this, and maybe give me a source (because i need to have a work cited page with more than one source; one is my book, one is another source) i’ve looked all over the internet and cant find anything about the urban water problems in the 1800s in the US. thanks for your help!
I researched 19th century sanitation and found the following links: some mention all aspects of sanitation, including water, while the last one begins its discussion with water sources and changes in the 19th century.
Is water in water fountains filtered?
Hi! I bought a metal bottle today for water, so i’m becoming more environment-friendly.
However, i have a question - is water in water fountains which are usually in schools, colleges, stores or wherever usually filtered or not? Or, that’s just cooled water from urban water supply without any filtering? I live in Seattle, maybe someone call tell me more about the quality of water.
Thanks.
All city water is treated and filtered. It’s just that some places have higher standards than others. Some cities even like to add a very small amount of fluoride to clean the residents’ teeth. It all depends where you live. Since you live in Seattle I would say your water must be just fine.
It’s more important to find out about the quality of the pipes this water is running through. If these are old pipes then some of the pipe has actually being worn away by the water and is probably in the water itself. Some metals are more likely to wear away than others like old fashioned iron. It would actually be better for you to research when your house, school, store, etc. last had their pipes changed and if they are made out of copper.
When using water from tap that you are going to drink, it is all ways good to let it run for a couple seconds to get rid of any sediments. You should also know that hot water is more likely to create sediment buildup, so it is always better to boil your cold water.
Hope that helped.
water distribution of river ganga in urban and rural areas and conservation of river ganga?
You have taken this great river and turned it into a sewer.
What pollution control laws you have are weak and even they aren’t enforced.
Here is a place to start: find the first major polluter upstream - it will be an industrial plant or a city. Put on trial and imprison the officials/executives in charge of the "point source" polluter. Publicize the trial and imprisonment.
Then, go downstream and find the next major polluter. Put the mayor or CEO on trial and imprison him. Publicize this event.

Good luck to you
Where to live inexpensively, near water, and a warm climate?
My wife and I live in Muskegon, Michigan. We live in a great neighborhood about 1/10 of a mile from the beaches of Lake Michigan. The winters are bad, the economy is worse. We have a 1300 sq.ft. ranch worth about $140,000. Property is fairly cheap here. We would like to find a similar situation in the south or south-west. Not interested in areas with high crime or an urban environment. Suburbs close to water. Any ideas?
Look at the panhandle of Florida, or the coastal areas of MS or AL.
WE HAVE 156,000 structurally deficient bridges, crumbling water pipes, antiquated power grid, urban decay,?
WHY?
Government WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE THINGS with ALL the taxes WE HAVE ALREADY PAID…
Property tax, income tax, tax on food, gas, cable, death and so on…
What did the government do with the MONEY they have received from us?
NOW WE ARE SUPPOSED TO SUPPORT A PROGRAM WITH FUTURE TAX DOLLARS TO DO WHAT GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE?
*** What did the government do with the
*** MONEY they have received from us?
The money was stolen and the theft continues and escalates, especially since 01/20.
What is left is wasted semi-legitimately: welfare checks, unionized teachers, salaries of cohorts of incompetent bureaucrats.
What are the easiest things to do to start conserving water in the garden?
I’m starting a garden in a new space this year and I’d like to be more earth friendly. Watering the traditional way is a little difficult because it’s an urban space and hoses and whatnot aren’t available. Does anyone have suggestions on ways to reuse water or conserve water?
The obvious one is to use "clean" wastewater rather than fresh, purified water that’s safe to drink. Plants don’t require that.
You can bail water from your bath, catch water from your shower (except the part where you rinsed out the shampoo), or set up a catch system for rainwater.
Find a way to store water in or near the garden without letting it evaporate (a Rubbermaid tub with a tight seal?) and get yourself a good watering can. I don’t know about you, but I feel more ‘involved’ in a garden when I water by hand.
What was the main problem being caused by urban sprawl in Austin?
1.
What was the main problem being caused by urban sprawl in Austin?
(redo)
Increased livestock were polluting the water
Increased asphalt and concrete caused water runoff to pollute the water.
Widening highways were promoting new building in natural areas.
The increase in home building was threatening the city’s source of drinking water
-*out of all thoes some onee help come oon!!!
I’m not sure if you are asking a question with a definate answer? But for me personally it is the widening highways were promoting new building in natural areas such as Southpark Meadows off of Slaughter is supposed to be a protected area (on the Greenbelt) but they built a stupid shopping center on it anyways.
New Urban Legend?! Jumping Off Waterfalls Feet First Can Kill You? Water Pressure Shoots Up Your ***!?
Here’s the urban legend:
Man finds beautiful spot in nature, the top of a manageable waterfall, ~20-40 feet (or maybe more) above a diveable pool.
Man wants to dive off waterfall and plunge down into the cold crisp waters below. Doesn’t want to dive, doesn’t want to break his neck, belly flop or drown, so Man decides to jump…
Feet First. But upon impact, even in a perfect straight pencil dive, the water pressure shoot up the Man’s ***/rages up it, and totally destroys the Man’s rectum, wrecking internal organs and such, etc. Killing him.
Is this possible? Can Man get killed jumping in feet first? What kind of injuries can Man sustain and at what heights of jump?
I suppose anything is possible, but I would doubt that an unintentional enema will kill you. At least not as fast as hitting your head on the bottom.
Keep in mind that diving platforms for competition are 10M (about 33 feet), while diving platforms for aqua shows are much higher.
