Please help. Have 2 water meters installed for my well for 2 homes in rural area.?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin in water rural | 4 Comments »

.
Can anybody tell me how we can convert the numbers on the water meter to amount of dollars to pay? We each live on an acre of land, which uses a lot of water. My brother shared the well with us, but has moved. Since he moved, we bought and installed 2 water meters. Now, we need to know how much the new owners should pay. We live outside of Bakersfield
Thanks for all the answers. It is actually my parents place. How would they convert the kilowatts(or whatever), to the dollar amount? I really appreciate your patience with my ignorance on the subject.

I work for a water department in Texas and we have a base rate of $20 for 0 to 2000 gallons of water used.
Then from 2001- 10000 gallons it’s $2.00 per 1000 gallons.

So say they used 8,000 gallons of water….
$20 for 2000
$12 for 6000
equals $32 for 8000 gallons of water used.

My Bloodhound puppy is 9 months old. Almost every time he drinks water he throws it back up.?

Posted on December 31st, 2009 by admin in water rural | 3 Comments »

When he throws up it is only water and slime and the occasional kibble. he is on good dog food DIAMOND CHICKEN AND RICE NATURALS, we do have well water (this is a new switch from our rural water). I herd of BLAP DISEASE, but don’t know what it is or how i can cure it. he has a raised water dish but he is about 2 foot tall and the dish is about 1 foot tall. Should i try a Water Bottle?

I raise bloodhounds, and I can tell you that this is not a common problem with them, at all.
As you have stated, you raise the dishes.. and that is the best you can do for him at that point.
But he DOES need to see a vet.
This is not normal behaviour.
If he is drink too fast, or eating too fast, then you need to give him water in very small quantities, and allow NO excersize after he has eaten.
As I am sure you know, a common problem with them is bloat, and eliminating ANY exercise after they have eaten/drank will reduce problems along those lines.

But vomitting food and water is not normal.
Take him to the vet.

If you have any more questions about bloodhounds, feel free to email me and I’d be very happy to help.

How do I find a meth lab in a rural setting?

Posted on November 12th, 2009 by admin in water rural | 9 Comments »

My neighbor was arrested a couple of weeks ago for manufacturing meth in his home and possibly on my rural property. I’m hardly ever down on the farm anymore, so he had plenty of privacy to commit his crimes. I found one of his campfire sites near a creek on the property, but, at the time, didn’t know it was for drug making.

What do I look for? Is there a smell? What does it smell like when it is being heated? Anyone with first hand experience in finding meth labs out in the woods reading this and can offer suggestions on how to prevent this from happening again?

It’s embarrassing to know the DEA, FBI, and such were on my place as well as his looking for dope making materials. I was told the drug sniffing dogs signalled many times on the abandoned house on the property, but when I went inside the house last week, I could find nothing out of place. Can I rent a dope sniffing dog to go on my own property and look for this hazardous material before it pollutes the ground water?

If you have reason to continue to think there is Meth, Ice being cooked on your property, then get the Law involved. You don’t want to go anywhere near that place until it is proved and cleaned up. Don’t worry about the polution. Can’t do anything about it , now. The Meth, abusers, and makers kill ,if interupted. So with Great Warning, Leave it up to the Law enforcement. Don’t even go there. Stay away, until they tell you that you can go to your property. You can also become a suspect, and be charged with being involved. So stay the heck away. Let the Law handle it.

Australian rural gardeners, what is your watering routine.?

Posted on November 9th, 2009 by admin in water rural | 2 Comments »

How many times a week and for how long, do you water your gardens.
I am watering 6 areas twice a week 20mins each area.Does that sound about right for a town in its 10th year of drought.

I dont know where you are but in brisbane we have to use a bucket 3 days week between 4 & 8 am & 4 & 8 pm & its hard work & only a few buckets get used because as i said it is hard & so my garden is dying

Why does my water stink and what can I use to make it not stink?

Posted on November 6th, 2009 by admin in water rural | 2 Comments »

My water comes from a rural water department that gets it’s water straight from the city. My water only seems to stink when I am washing clothes, its an offensive odor, it doesn’t make my clothes stink but I was wondering what I could use to make that smell go away while using my washer…any tips?

does it stink if you run the washer w/o any clothes in it?
if you take a jug, and fill it with the water that runs into your washing machine, does that stink?
if you undo the cold and hot hose, and take water from each of those, does either, or both, or neither stink?

maybe if you do some more testing, it’ll be easier to figure out the answer.

are there any other faucets where the water stinks?
maybe outside?
maybe in your water heater?

if that hasn’t shown you anything, try putting just soap, and no clothes in the washer.
then try just running a wash with nothing in it.

if you want a guess, the washer is old, and something in it’s hoses, is the problem.

or, there’s some dead animal (rat?) that’s caught in it that just won’t wash out.

Why are so many people averse to drinking tap water?

Posted on October 28th, 2009 by admin in water rural | 2 Comments »

I know a fair number of people who will not drink their tap water, and I was on the receiving end of disgust when I filled up my water cup at the tap while visiting friends a few days ago. I am in the northeastern United States, so the tap water here isn’t like that from, say, rural Bangladesh or Central America. So, why are they so gung-ho on using only bottled or spring water for drinking?

Usually because of chemicals like chlorine and flouride. Taste is a big factor. I use tap water put through a Brita filter
and when I go back to straight tap water it’s like drinking a glass of Clorox Bleach.

Is tap water in France drinkable (rural dordogne)?

Posted on October 28th, 2009 by admin in water rural | 7 Comments »

Drinking water all over France is the subject of government regulation and inspection. It is generally safe in any part of the country although it might be possible to find a well in some part of rural France which is not good.

any ideas re building sustainable swimming hole rural property solar power, filtering water with reeds etc?

Posted on October 26th, 2009 by admin in water rural | 3 Comments »

Not knowing how big the property is, the only suggestion is the solar and wind power is a great addition to any rural property. The thermosipon solar hot water system would be ideal. No pumps, or electricity required. A wind generator would be good at night or day. Some solar panels can give you electricity but that is a large investment.

Do you have running water thru the property?

what is the cause of water scarcity in rural and urban areas?

Posted on October 22nd, 2009 by admin in water rural | 3 Comments »

Water needs in those density populated urban areas are exceeded by the supply.

Water needs in those rural mostly agricultural areas are exceeded by the supply.
