UK Company with large carbon footprint…help please!?
Hi,
I am doing a presentation on why it is important in business to use renewable energy. I really need some facts and figures, maybe sustainability reports etc, for companies that are taking measures to reduce their carbon footprint by using renewable energy (such as Tesco) and those companies which are not, and have a large carbon footprint (eg Shell).
Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks
tesco are greenwashing, see all that heating, fridges, trucks…. they only generate a tiny fraction of what they use, made no moves yet to rationalise their distribution network, put doors on the fridges etc.
better to compare smaller genuinely greening company like the body shop or the co-operative with smaller ‘greenwashing’ company like morrisons or ford u.k..
you can get a lot of information from their own sites, all reputable businesses publish financial reports etc.
What are some questions you have about water conservation?
I am doing an event on water conservation and wanted to see where the public interest is, what are some questions you have? Concerns? Things you would like to know more about. Thanks
I would pose the following questions
1) How effective is home water conservation and should it be required?
1a) Should municipalities be able to mandate how much green area you have during times of water shortages?
2) How effective is water conservation in restaurants and should it be mandated?
3) In drought prone areas, should farmers be encouraged to grow drought resistant crops in lieu of traditional crops that might otherwise be grown there?
4) Should municipalities install more public drinking fountains thereby discouraging the ue of bottled water, thereby reducing the plastic waste?
I hope this helps. I live in an area of frequent drought conditions and we are very aware of the need for the conservation of water, both for urban and agricultural concerns.
What are some solutions and reasons to water pollution?
I need solutions to water pollution to my natural resources project for geography!
FINAL PROJECT for this semester!!!
Please help!!!
Thanks!
Look up Lake Erie and the solutions to the pollution there. I remember when the lake caught fire because of all the pollution. Nowadays it is the number one walleye and smallmouth bass capitol of the world. A true victory for sportsmen.
What can teens do to help out with water conservation ?
What can teens (a group of 10 teens between the ages of 12 - 16)do to help out with water conservation ?
Big things not just turning off the water while brushing your teeth and taking shorter showers.
Also what can we do to spread the word ???
There are many things your group can do, but each depends upon where you live. I live in a semi-rural area, so I can do things like re-direct the output of my family’s clothes washer to water the garden and the lawn. Also, depending how industrious and capable your group is, you could buy a coil of soft copper pipe, connect it to the cold water supply, place the coil in a large barrel which will eventually be filled with the hot water output of someone taking a shower. The cold water in the coil will be somewhat heated up by the hot water from the shower drain, thus requiring less energy to heat the hot water supply that will go to the shower in the future. In retrospect, this is probably beyond the abilities of your group.

Are there any sustainability interships in the west this summer?
My boyfriend and I are wanting to live off the grid. We’re wanting to go to an intership for grey water usage, rain water catchment, solar panels, and organic gardening. We’re looking for something in the west. Can anyone help? Thanks.
It sounds like you should look for an organic farm to live on. There are a lot of organic farms that will house you and work you all day long. And then maybe to contribute you can learn about rain water catchment, solar panels, etc from the internet to help them out. I would start calling small organic farms and asking them when their busy seasons are if they are looking for help and explain your situation. Good luck!
What are the best methods of water conservation that would most benefit my school and community?
PLEASE ANSWER A.S.A.P
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!
One thing everyone can do is remove lawns and plant drought resistant native plants. Much of water is used to irrigate landscaping.
Just my thoughts
Please help. Have 2 water meters installed for my well for 2 homes in rural area.?
.
Can anybody tell me how we can convert the numbers on the water meter to amount of dollars to pay? We each live on an acre of land, which uses a lot of water. My brother shared the well with us, but has moved. Since he moved, we bought and installed 2 water meters. Now, we need to know how much the new owners should pay. We live outside of Bakersfield
Thanks for all the answers. It is actually my parents place. How would they convert the kilowatts(or whatever), to the dollar amount? I really appreciate your patience with my ignorance on the subject.
I work for a water department in Texas and we have a base rate of $20 for 0 to 2000 gallons of water used.
Then from 2001- 10000 gallons it’s $2.00 per 1000 gallons.
So say they used 8,000 gallons of water….
$20 for 2000
$12 for 6000
equals $32 for 8000 gallons of water used.
How can we control the water dripping out of window unit AC?
We have a window unit air conditioner in our bedroom window in NYC. We’re on the third floor and water drips out onto the sidewalk. I know that means that our unit is working great, but our neighbors are angry about getting wet every time they step out our front door. We can’t begrudge them that. How can we control the drip? Is there a tube or a tray we can purchase? If we do need to control the water with a tube, where can we get one and what is the best configuration since we are in a dense urban area and almost anywhere outside that we’d redirect the water we would be getting someone wet.
IF MOVING THE DRIP 3 OE 4 FT TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM I THINK THAT IT WOULD BE EASY TO DO. IT MAY ALSO MAKE IT NECESSARY TO PUT THE DRAIN OPENING CLOSE TO THE BUILDING AND WOULD STAIN THE OUTSIDE OVER TIME AND MIGHT HAVE THE LANDLORD TELLING YOU NOT TO DO IT. I DON’T KNOW IF YOU CAN TAKE THE WATER BACK INSIDE TO A HANDY SINK OR BATHTUB DRAIN BUT THAT WOULD BE A VERY GOOD SOLUTION. ANOTHER IS TO PUT A PUMP AND FLOAT ON A RESERVOIR AND DO IT FOR A LONGER DISTANCE. THESE COMBINATIONS ARE SOLD FOR UNDERCOUNTER ICEMAKERS THAT DO NOT HAVE DRAINS INSTALLED AT THE ICEMAKERS AND I KNOW THAT WOULD WORK.
What is a good plant to use in a water quality experiment?
I will be testing the effects of different types of water (storm runoff, tap water, filtered water, grey water) on plants, and I need to know what’s a good plant that grows fast and that I will be readily able to notice differences in if it is unhealthy, etc.
duckweed (Lemna sp.) and Elodea (also called Anacharis)
You can get both in most pet stores, you get multiple plants of each (a container of small floating plants in the case of duckweed, a grouping of stems for the Elodea) and they’re relatively cheap (either would be less than $5-6)
